Seven Districts

Today, the city has seven very distinct districts. The Chesapeake Bay area, also known as Chic’s Beach to the locals, is along the northern edge of the city. Here, locals frequent the Chesapeake Bay beaches, restaurants, and bars. It’s a much quieter and laid-back scene. The Virginia Beach Oceanfront reaches from Cape Henry to Rudee Inlet. The 3-mile boardwalk offers everything visitors need for their vacation. Hotels, outdoor restaurants, entertainment, fishing, and watersports are all steps from the ocean. On the north end, there is a combination of modern and beach-style cottages. Both have a relaxed small-town feel.

South of the busy oceanfront tourist area is Sandbridge. With white sand and dunes leading to the Atlantic Ocean, this is a local’s paradise. There are also the lush marshes of False Cape State Park and the Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Pungo sits just inland from Sandbridge. Here, residents experience a very different atmosphere in this agricultural community. With 8,000 acres of farmland, it has country charm and local restaurants.

In recent years, Town Center has become the downtown of Virginia Beach. Its central location has become a hub for dining, shopping, and performing arts. Close to Town Center, the area known as Inland Virginia Beach combines large residential neighborhoods and parks. It has become a favorite for local breweries and specialty shops.
